On November 6th, 2010, we started construction on our bear habitat. Once completed, this 3-acre habitat will be able to house Liberty and 3 additional bears. We hope that with some significant donations, Liberty will be able to move in March 2011 and we can continue to work to have the habitat ready for future rescues. We will be using this page to update everyone on the progress that is made each week, to let everyone know what items we still need and to thank donors who have stepped up to help us give Liberty a home.
Join us as together we build a bear habitat.
Weekly Progress:

November 6th - We brought in 2(two) large fallen trees for Liberty to play on. Six large culverts were transported to Lions Tigers & Bears. These culverts will be covered with dirt so that Liberty can sit on the top of the culvert or curl up inside of it. We have to hurry because Liberty is growing fast - she weighed in at 117 lbs today!

November 13th - Today we worked on covering the culverts with dirt. We also cleared a road around the perimeter of the habitat.

December 4 - Today we built the stairs for easy access to the new bear habitat and we put up our first poles for the fences. The smaller poles will be for the outside fence and the larger poles are for the inside fence.
You can come visit us and see the progress for yourself. We have visits almost every Wednesday and Saturday 9am to 11am. All visits are by appointment only. Call (619) 659-8078 to make an appointment. These visits are free to members and non-members can visit for a $25 donation for adults and $15 donation for kids (12 and under).
